Pallet - How it Works

After harvest, even the most premium berries will begin to degrade and deteriorate, losing freshness and nutritients before reaching store displays. Although this process is a normal occurrence of nature, consumers can be disappointed by moldy, unappetizing fruit. Retailers may experience poor sales or profit-eroding shrink. Shippers or growers will be negatively impacted by uneven quality at retail.

As a supplement to good cold chain management, a TECTROL© Natural Atmosphere is sealed around each pallet unit just before loading on refrigerated trucks. Once the strawberries are sealed in TECTROL©, the degradation process is slowed and any Botrytus molds are inhibited. Not only is the product protected during transit but protection continues even after the bag is removed, and as product moves through distribution and onto the retail shelf. How do we apply the Tectrol pallet atmosphere? Click below for our presentation.

Upon arrival at a distribution center, the seal is broken and the bag removed. In many cases the fruit may arrive looking very similar to fruit that has not been protected with TECTROL©. However, the benefit of TECTROL© stays with the fruit long after the seal is broken, making it possible for the berries and cherries to retain fresher, more nutritious and more appealing shelf presentations much longer than unprotected fruit. The lingering benefit of less decay 1 to 3 days after arrival helps retailers increase their category profits.
