TransFRESH Corporation was formed in 1966 by Whirlpool Corporation for the
purpose of selling its proprietary family of TECTROL® Atmospheres in
transportation vehicles. The TECTROL® system is based on modifying or
controlling the atmosphere around perishable fruits and vegetables to extend
their freshness and market life.
Whirlpool had already successfully introduced the TECTROL® Atmosphere systems
for warehouse storage of apples and pears as well as the first prototypes for
ocean containers and rail cars. The creation of TransFRESH made it possible to
effectively design and market these services to the entire perishable trade.
Consistent research, development and application of technology have established
TransFRESH as the world leader in modified and controlled atmosphere processes
for the fresh food industry. Over its long history, TransFRESH has successfully
developed and provided the perishable industry with systems and processes for
refrigerated ocean containers and sealed pallet bags. TransFRESH continues to
market its entire family of controlled and modified atmosphere processes under
the tradename TECTROL® Modified and Controlled Atmosphere.
